Actually, a team which I am a part of have scanned 3 different 1967 IB prints, 2 Italian prints, a 1990's lpp print and a 1967 German print. We have also viewed another original 1967 IB tech (Tarintino's) projected in l.a. (And took copious notes). We have plenty of reference material and it all was offered to Kino. They told us to "take our complaints elsewhere". None of the prints are as green/yellow as the 2014 master, and even when compared with the increased contrast of prints, the 2014 master is needlessly crushed. The look of the 2009 Italian mondo disc is based off of the first restoration done in 2000 supervised by the original cinematographer, Tonino Delli Coli. (There were new prints made at that time). It leans a bit towards magenta in some places and suffers from rolling shutter, but it's still the closest to the prints in color (although it is far less contrasted than a print, being from negative.) For some reason the 2014 restoration decided to go with the memory of an assistant camera man and ignored the prints supervised by Delli Coli.

In subsequent posts, we offered an original 1967 continuity script (accurate to the exact frame) as reference, advised them to use the old laserdisc as reference if need be, and even offered our scans of 1967 prints. Time and again we were rebuffed by "Mister Lime" who works for Kino, and we were told they knew what they were doing, they had their own references etc etc.
It was in responding to the above post months later to update on the missing footage that Mr. Lime stated "Our 4K of the 161 minute cut matches the old MGM DVD of the theatrical cut exactly."
At this point I pointed out AGAIN that the 98 dvd was the wrong cut, and MisterLime said "I don't have time for this bullshit". I'm sure at this point he realized they were too far into production to change it. Other than the small bits/changes listed above, it IS entirely possible to recreate the 1967 theatrical cut IF you use the right reference. Kino decided they knew better despite all of the evidence presented and now we are getting the 98 hodge-podge cut in HD, instead of a cut that Leone approved and supervised in 1967. Recutting the Tuco gang scene is just perpetuating the same mistake made in 1998, and was completely avoidable. But hey, Kino will tell you they know better, despite the overwhelming evidence and research that says different.
Det er fanme noget rod.
